Projects : ResidentialVizion House, CambridgeThis award winning house is located in a residential area, close to the City centre, cocooned between Colleges and College residential properties. This area has had a long association with high quality, architect designed homes. For example, an Arts and Crafts Movement Bulding by Baillie Scott and a number of 1930's international style homes. As part of the briefing process we need the recently completed and adjoining houses by the devloper to argue the case for an alternative design approach. The broad concept for the house was to set the building back toward the North boundary and create as large a garden space as possible. The house and garden are closely integrated. The secondary ground and first floor spaces like Utility, Bathrooms, Boiler Room etc., are positioned on the North side with primary spaces, such as lounge, kitchen, dining and main bedrooms facing South towards the courtyard garden. The Conduit and Trumpington Street, Cambridge. The oval shaped lawn is bordered by the water rill and covered arbor with a transparent roof, linking house with the garage and multi-purpose accomodation above. The building is built of masonry with white render. The roofs and rainwater goods are pre-weathered zinc, all windows and balconies are in timber with a natural finish. The separate garage and first floor office or play space forms the South end of the oval court, which itself provides garden privacy from neighbouring properties. The architect appeared on the BBC East television show Home Programme where Vizion House was the main feature. |
