Projects : AcademicUniversity of Gloucester, CheltenhamFullwood ResidencesAs part of a larger master plan for the entire 'tear drop' site it was decided after great debate and research to remove the existing 1939 four and five storey student accommodation. This decision allowed the existing 'Fullwood House' to become autonomous again. The design concept sought to provide eight four storey 'villas' positioned around the existing Fullwood House in the form of a traditional pedestrian free Cheltenham Crescent. Each villa provides accommodation for between 32 and 40 students in single study rooms with en suite facilities. The buildings are externally rendered with stone detailing at parapets and window sills. The third floor roofs are vertically clad in pre-weathered zinc as are the main butterfly roofs above. Phase Two of the development will be completed after the new refectory has been built allowing the existing building to be demolished. Award winner, February 2000 |
