Clifford Thames Headquarters

The 49 acre Chelmsford Business Park is north-east of the town, Chelmsford near the Boreham interchange. Dating from the 18th century, Springfield Lyons House had suffered sub-division, neglect and vandalism, followed by thefts of roofing materials and two fires.

The Clients acquired the property for their European headquarters, and required additional floorspace. The architects were master planners for the Business Park. They sought to provide a modern design solution for the new offices acting as a 'foil', which ensured that the historic and modern building were neither confused nor comprimised. The link between the two is fully glazed to neutralize the junction between the two.
