The Practice Philosophy
The practice's approach to design is to treat each project individually. It aims to produce an original design that responds with feeling to the client's brief and budget, the proposed use, the constraints of the site and its surroundings.
The practice does not have a set "house style" but sets out to achieve an "appropriateness" particular to each project. Projects that the practice has completed demonstrate an ability to work successfully with a broad palette that covers a range from listed buildings to "high-tech" and from locations in historic towns to green field sites.
Environmentalism is no longer just a fashionable term but is a key concern of the commercial and professional world. Buildings and products that are not environmentally friendly are gradually being viewed in the same way as fox fur, mink and ivory. To achieve a responsible and cost effective built environment Barber Casanovas Ruffles addresses issues such as siting, the built form, landscape, land form, climate, the internal environment, materials, pollution, controls and free choice efficiency, embodied energy, long term sustainability, life cycle costs and carbon footprint.
